Welcome to the Ashbourne Shire Horse Society Website

Saturday 20th August 2011 saw the sun shining for the 120th Ashbourne Show.

The Show was already buzzing at 8am as the judges made their way through the field of entrants in the cattle, sheep and shire classes. Handlers were grooming the cattle, sprucing up the sheep and plaiting the manes of the magnificent shires before parading them in front of the judges hoping for at least one winning rosette during the day. On the opposite side of the Showground horses were being put through their paces before waiting in turn to enter the Ring.  Immaculately turned-out riders and their mounts all eagerly awaiting the chance to win their class and go through to the 2011 Horse of the Year Show.  

A record number of visitors poured onto the Showground to watch a spectacle of country life at its best – local produce in abundance, local art and crafts to view and buy, local food to eat and local people working together to deliver another sucessful Show.  

Months of preparation go into the event and each year the organisers endeavour to exceed the expectations of the exhibitors, the participants and the crowds of people who come to spend the day in the countryside.

As soon as the last marquee is taken down thoughts are turned to next year’s Show which will be held on Saturday 18 August 2012.
