On Show For 2011

Star attraction for 2011 will be the Black Rock Llamas Agility Racing Team – Llamas have been described as elegant, agile, comical and cuddly so for an all round experience make sure you are at the Main Ring when the Black Rock Llamas are put through their paces.  Audience participation is essential for this unique arena attraction so volunteer if you are fit enough to accompany these lovable animals as they race through their obstacle course.

New for 2011 are the Arraslea Shires – based in the beautiful Derbyshire hamlet of Alderwasley these magnificent horses are still used for carrying out many of the farming activities such as ploughing and logging.  Enjoy an interesting experience at this year’s Show in the company of the Arraslea Shires as their farrier carries out horse-shoe making demonstrations throughout the day.

Another welcome exhibitor for 2011 will be Venture Photography – visit their stand and purchase a momento of your day at the 120th Ashbourne Show.

Of course, Ashbourne Show wouldn’t be Ashbourne Show without the Shire Horse and last year’s entries for the Shire Horse Classes reached an all time record. Many visitors attend the Show just to see these magnificent animals being put through their paces, others come for a family outing or to spend a day in the lovely surroundings of Osmaston Polo Ground.

If you are a regular visitor, a member or are planning to visit for the first time there are displays and attractions to suit everyone. Even Ashbourne Radio (96.7 FM) will be broadcasting live from the Show throughout the day.

Cattle and horses, sheep and goats will all be on display and looking their best for the many competitive classes throughout the morning. Following  a successful inaugural visit in 2010 the Poultry & Pets Marquee will return with fine examples of prize winning poultry on show. Pets are not forgotten with a variety of furry exhibits and children are encouraged to bring along their small pets, including dogs, for entry into their own Pet Show. Over 100 quality stands and marquees will be at the Show promoting their goods and services including the increasingly popular Food Hall where you can buy and try local produce. Horticulturalists and photographers will be displaying their work and the Young Farmers and Womens Institute will be hoping to attract new members.

The Main Ring events culminate with the Grand Parade of horses and livestock – a colourful display to celebrate the continuation of rural tradition.

Finally to celebrate the 120th Anniversary there will be the opportunity for one lucky visitor to win £500! Purchase a Prize Draw ticket for only £1 and you could find yourself £499 better off by the end of the day.  If you don’t win the 1st Prize there are still many other prizes to take away.

Tickets will be available to purchase at the showground and the draw will take place at 4.30 p.m.

STOP PRESS:  Scurry Driving is back!  The main arena will once again host Championship Scurry Driving with drivers this year coming from as far afield as Holland.
